MUSIC THERAPY

Music therapy at Hudson Valley Hospice is designed to enhance the quality of life for patients and families by:

  • Improving communication
  • Alleviating stress
  • Exploring feelings
  • Enhancing socialization
  • Reducing isolation
  • Offering spiritual and coping supports

HOW DOES MUSIC THERAPY OFFER SUPPORT?

Research has shown that music therapy may significantly increase quality of life for hospice patients, families and caregivers. Music brings comfort and consolation, enhances physical and emotional well-being and may help to:

  • Manage pain and discomfort
  • Reduce anxiety, depression
  • Lessen respiratory distress
  • Strengthen coping skills
  • Provide spiritual and bereavement support
  • Enhance memorial experience

This therapy is available to patients and their families, and may be requested through any Hudson Valley Hospice staff member, including the nurse, social worker, chaplain, home health aide, or volunteer, or by calling Hudson Valley Hospice directly.

It may be provided in your home, in the hospital, or in nursing homes that are served by Hudson Valley Hospice. Sessions may be private, or include supportive care for family members and caregivers.

WHO PROVIDES MUSIC THERAPY?

Hudson Valley Hospice employs a board-certified Licensed Creative Arts Therapist with Master’s level education and specialty training in Hospice and Palliative Care Music Therapy.   We are also an AMTA National Roster Internship site, with interns in each county who provide clinical services under the direction of our clinical staff.
