ABOUT HUDSON VALLEY HOSPICE

OUR MISSION

At Hudson Valley Hospice, our mission is to serve the people of Dutchess and Ulster Counties by enhancing the quality of living for those at the end of life.

We are a private, not-for-profit health-care agency dedicated to helping individuals who are near the end of life maintain their dignity and enhance the quality of life.

Not only do we care for the patient, but we also care for the family. By providing physical, spiritual and emotional support, our professional and volunteer staff will help family members through this challenging time.

OUR HISTORY

Hudson Valley Hospice dates back to the late 1970s, when community leaders came together informally in both Dutchess and Ulster counties to provide referral information about local care providers as well as to provide spiritual support aligned with the hospice philosophy.

This ultimately led to the 1979-1981 formation of two community-based not-for-profit organizations among the nation’s first hospices, namely Hospice Association of Ulster County and the Hospice Information and Referral Association of Dutchess County.

In 1991 we expanded as Hospice, Inc., joining our professional expertise in community service to represent the very best in hospice care on both sides of the Hudson River.

In 2001 we established the Hospice Foundation as a not-for-profit organization to educate the community on hospice care, raise necessary funds and accept contributions that enabled Hospice, Inc. to continue with our enhanced hospice program.

In 2013 we became Hudson Valley Hospice, emphasizing our geographic base and recognizing our continued service to the region as one of the oldest hospices in the State and the Nation.
